PRESIDENT'S
MESSAGE
This year’s annual meeting of the Arizona Orthopaedic
Society (AOS) was highlighted with AAOS president Joseph
Zuckerman, MD giving us an update of the Academy’s
position/speculation on what we might expect out of Washington
with regards to healthcare reform. As he noted it is changing
daily and final legislation has not been crafted yet. AAOS, AOS
and the Arizona Medical Association (ArMA) are working for us to
keep us informed and positioned to make sure our voice is heard.
We had an excellent turn out and the Diamondbacks co-operated by
winning in extra innings. We will continue to work with the
American Association of Orthopaedic Executives (formerly BONES)
to foster practice management skills and to reach out to
potential members.
Congratulations to our resident paper competition winners:
Andrew Mahoney, MD, first place; Matthew Nugent, MD, second
place; and Jason Wild, MD, third place.
Planning has begun on next years meeting which we are hoping to
dovetail with the AAOS Fall meeting in 2010. More information
will follow as it becomes available.
I would like to say a special thanks to the Pima and Maricopa
Chapters of the Arizona Orthopaedic Society for their generous
financial contributions that helped defray the cost of this
year’s meeting.
Several spots on the Board of Directors will be up for election
next year and we are soliciting nominations. Get involved and
tell a friend!
