MEMBERSHIP ADVANTAGES
Government Relations: One of the primary purposes of the Arizona Orthopaedic Society (AOS) is to represent the interests of its members before government. Arizona representation provides the presence necessary to influence federal and state legislation and regulators. The society is actively involved in such issues as HCFA coding guidelines, expansion of chiropractic into medical practice, and managed care.
National Orthopaedic Leadership Conference: The AOS covers travel and expenses to members attending this yearly conference held every spring in Washington, DC. Arizona orthopaedists are afforded the opportunity to participate in national policy making at a grassroots level.
ICA Committee: In 1996, an Industrial Commission Committee was created to provide orthopaedic representation to the Industrial Commission of Arizona for review and recommendation of proposed changes in reimbursement levels.
Educational Opportunities:
The Society hosts an annual
meeting each year at no charge to our members in good standing.
This year’s meeting is tentatively scheduled to be held at the
Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort on May 29 – 30, 2009 and will
offer members the chance to network with their Orthopaedic
colleagues around the state and learn what is happening in the
legislative and regulatory arena in regards to the practice of
medicine. Look for more information soon.
Third Party Payor Relations: A member of the AOS sits on the Medicare Carrier Advisory Committee, which addresses issues relating to Medicare and other third-party-payor matters.
American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons: The society is represented by two councilors to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. The AAOS councilors communicate the needs and interests of local members and affect national orthopaedic care policy.
Web Site: The AOS Web site features include current meeting
information, membership information, legislative updates and a specialty search. The AOS web site is found at
www.azortho.org.
Committee Involvement: AOS members are invited and encouraged to participate in the society committee structure. Committee involvement provides direct experience with issues that determine the overall success of the society.
Professional Camaraderie: Perhaps the greatest benefit of society membership is the professional sharing at meetings and other society
sponsored activities.
The membership contribution is $200.00/year for active members . This not only supports the advocacy activities, but also gives you a discount to the annual educational meeting. We know you will find involvement in the Arizona Orthopaedic Society to be a rewarding and productive experience. The following application can be printed and mailed to us. If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to call or to E-mail us at
